Heart racing. Pressure + pounding in my head. Stress coursing through my veins. Headaches by afternoon. No stopping for lunch. My inner voice saying, "go faster, hurry, you are late for the next, go, go, go."
It was so familiar, I barely noticed it all until the end of each day when I would finally get in my car to speed to the next thing.
I knew that this was not sustainable and yet, it seemed to be my only option if I wanted to keep this 'good job'.
Only my work bestie and my husband really knew how bad it all was.
Luckily at that point I got pregnant and that maternity leave came at the perfect time! I returned with my tank refilled and a clean slate on my to do list.
However, I quickly found myself back in leadership trying to juggle all of the things, holding responsibility for it all in 9 hours a day, come home to children who needed different skills and patience, throw in COVID, and a tough employee situation without support at work.
I found I was a train heading right towards burnout- working long hours, feeling like there was never enough time, kids anxious, husband annoyed, and feeling like a failure at home + work.
After years of just putting up with it all, I started to get serious about what people do when they find themselves stuck. After all, I already had two kids and I sure as heck wasn't having another baby just to get a maternity leave again! HA!
So, I started a personal journey of reflection, exploring my energy levels, enrolled in coaching training, read about employee engagement, mental wellbeing, and burnout, observed similar overwhelm in my colleagues, analyzed more research, and hilariously bored my husband about it all! Sucker!
But, the good news is that I knew I was on to something. There was more possibility, the options were endless actually but only when my mind would let me see them! It was the epiphany that other women were having the same issue that helped me leap!
